Aaron Widt has scored 100 goals this season!

It took 43 years but it was worth it. Arguably Sandgate’s greatest ever goal kicker and without doubt the club leading games holder across all grades, Aaron Widt needed 14 goals on the weekend to achieve 100 goals in a season. It has been almost 30 years since the Hawks crowd witnessed the feat of a century being notched up.

Widt, who was President of the club and board member for ten years, has been a loyal club man since he put on the boots as a six year old back in 1985. Rising through the junior ranks and into senior footy at the age of 16, he has cemented his place in football folklore.

Up against the Jindalee Jaguars, in Sandgate’s QFA Division 2 North Reserves, Widt went into the game under an injury cloud but with the support of his team mates had 11 goals by three quarter time.

Coach, Trent Fuller, laid down the message at three quarter time break that all entry into the forward line in the final stanza was to be directed to Widt at full forward.

With two goals by the ten minute mark, the dream of 100 goals beckoned. Another Hawks clearance was directed to the goal square and young Canadian sensation, Cadeyrn Barthelson dived on the ball and without hesitation, upon hearing the call from Widt to his right, handballed cleanly, the snap was successful and Widt wrote his name into Hawks history in their 80th year.
